Gingerbread Bars with Cream Cheese Icing

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 3/4 teaspoons ground ginger (if you use fresh ginger use 1 teaspoon)

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter, melted (high fat content- European style)

  • 2/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 cup unsulphured molasses

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tanon vanilla

Cream Cheese Icing

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, at room temperature

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

  • 3 cups icing sugar, sifted

  • Pinch of salt

  • holiday sprinkles. peppermint frost ( chopped peppermint candy). or candied ginger flakes (for the ginger lover)
