Persimmons

Persimmons are in season October through February. Persimmons are a berry that is red-brown or orange fruits that grow on trees. They are sweet and delicious — and full of nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Some say that persimmons can taste like apricots! It’s great to be eaten raw, dried or dehydrated, and cooked!

BUY IT

Persimmons will ripen once they are picked, so we recommend buying them firmer and allowing them to ripen. Look for characteristics similar to those of a ripe tomato, smooth, firm, and no scarring.

ADD IT

Persimmons can be sweet and sour, and their texture is similar to that of apricots or peaches. Persimmons can be pureed or baked into goods, but they can also be cut like an apple and eaten raw!

PREP IT

To eat a persimmon, cut off the green leaf-like flower and stem. Slice the persimmon into thin slices, just like a tomato. You can choose to peel the persimmon and leave the skin on.
