Ginger
In California, ginger is in season in August until November. Ginger is a great way to add fresh flavors to your dishes! Once you have peeled and grated your ginger, it can easily be used in traditional Asian dishes, sauces, marinades, and even certain desserts. Ginger is sure to brighten up any dish.
BUY IT
To buy fresh ginger, you can nick some of the skin and smell. If it smells pungent and spicy, that’s what you want! Avoid ginger that has any soft spots as this means it is going bad and has been out for too long.
ADD IT
It’s best to add ginger to your dishes when you want an added light spiciness and tangy freshness. Ginger can be used beyond the traditional asian dishes like stir-fries. Ginger can be used to glaze your proteins and vegetables and can even be used as dessert!
PREP IT
When prepping your ginger, remove the skin, slice, julienne or grate for cooking. You can scrape off the skin using the top of a teaspoon. When storing, put it in a resealable bag (with all the air removed) and put it in your fridge. If you don’t use ginger as often as two week, store it in the freezer and use when needed!
