Why Farmer’s Markets Matter?

IT'S NATIONAL FARMERS MARKET WEEK!

August 2nd - 8th

It’s national farmers market week and we are still farming!

Now, more than ever, our agriculture is being negatively impacted by COVID 19. But farmers markets may be open in your community with CDC guidelines. This is important to know if a farmers market is open near you because supporting our local farmers is and has always been very important.

Here's why it matters:

TASTING THE DIFFERENCE:

Farmers Markets typically sell their ripest and freshest fruits and veggies that they are growing. Usually the fruits naturally ripen in the fields and head straight for the farmers markets, No long-distance shipping! More often than not, our produce is packaged and treated in order to endure long shipments and have a longer shelf life. By shopping at your local farmers market you eliminate this and get some of the most fresh produce your area has to offer.

SEASONAL PRODUCE:

What you buy at the Farmers Markets is seasonal. This is the definition of eating what's fresh. Seasonal produce reflects the truest of flavors in our produce. Why is fresh best? When eating seasonal, you get the best flavors and more natural ingredients. This helps with seasonal recipes and flavors that you may not have year round. You may see tomatoes to buy at the store year round, but trust me, they aren’t going to be as fresh tasting!

MEETING YOUR FARMER:

Family farmers need your support, especially in the age of COVID19. Buying from farmers directly helps the farmers have a better return when in competition with bigger ag businesses. By meeting your farmers you learn more about their produce, their seasonality of that produce and who they are. Remember, farmers are people too that have lives, families and so much more. By meeting your farmer you understand their story, the reason behind their business and insider information on what may be coming soon!

PROMOTING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE:

When buying at your local farmers market, you're helping your community and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Foods bought at a grocery stores can be processed and grown using ingredients that may be harmful to your body. Most of all that you buy at the farmers market isn't modified. By shopping at your local farmers market you're helping reduce extra packaging, travel time with fossil fuels and so much more!

Know your farmer, know your food.
