Nubia Renteria
DISNEY’S GRAND CALIFORNIA HOTEL & SPA
DISNEYLAND, CALIFORNIA
Born and raised in Los Angeles. Nubia started cooking with her mother from a very early age. Her mom loves to cook so she would sit and watch her make dinner for the family nightly. One day she decided she would try and make a flan for dessert and she was mesmerized. Watching the sugar turn from a white powder to a golden brown syrup and the custard went into the oven as a liquid but came out solid blew her mind! She was hooked. She had to know everything. Nubia was very fortunate in her early teenage years to have her parents open a donut shop. This taught her how to work. It also helped her hone her skills and prepare her for culinary school. Her local community college (Cerritos Community College) had a culinary arts program so she decided to attend right after high school graduation. During her last semester in school one of our food vendors mentioned that he knew a chef at Disney who was looking to hire someone. She figured she would give it a shot and 19 years later she’s still here. Disney has given her the chance to learn and grow in a very fast paced, ever evolving environment. Which is why 19 years later she is still here as Pastry Chef at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
