Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup confectioners’ sugar
  • ½ cup cold butter, diced (+ a little more if desired)
  • Apple Filling:
  • 3 cups granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (You can also use Homemade applesauce)
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour/Almond flour (if using homemade applesauce, only add the flour)
  • Caramel Layer:
  • ¾ cup caramel topping
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • Topping:
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts or boozy nuts
  • ½ cup cold butter, diced
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour/almond flour (substitute if preferred)
  • ⅓ cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Crust:
  2. Preheat oven to 325°F. Lightly butter your baking dish, getting the bottom and all sides.
  3. In a large bowl, blend flour, confectioners’ sugar, and butter until the butter is no bigger than pea-sized and ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Press the crust into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Apple Filling:
  7. In a medium bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, and flour. Pour the apples over the baked crust.
  8. If using homemade applesauce, add flour only.
  9. Caramel Layer:
  10. In a small bowl, combine caramel and flour. Pour over the apple mixture.
  11. Topping:
  12. In a medium bowl, add cold butter, flour, confectioners’ sugar, and oatmeal. Use your hands to sift the flour over the butter and then break down each piece into pea-sized pieces.
  13. Crumble the oatmeal mixture over the apples and caramel mix.
  14. Bake for 35-55 minutes.
