Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 3/4 Cup (lightly packed) Fresh Mint Leaves, from about 2 small bunches
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 3 Tbsp Bourbon
  • 1 Tbsp Crème De Menthe
  • 1 Tspn Fresh Mint Leaves, minced
  • 4 Each Fresh Mint Sprigs

Instructions

  1. Combine the water, fresh mint leaves, and sugar in a heavy large saucepan.
  2. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Pour the mixture into a medium bowl and refrigerate it until it's cold, approximately 2 hours.
  5. Strain the mint syrup through a sieve set over a bowl, pressing on the mint leaves. Discard the mint leaves.
  6. Mix the bourbon, crème de menthe, and minced mint leaves into the mint syrup.
  7. Freeze the mixture until it becomes semi-firm, whisking occasionally, which should take about 3 hours.
  8. Cover and freeze the mixture until it's solid, either for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  9. Using a fork, scrape the surface of the frozen mixture to form crystals.
  10. Scoop the crystals into frozen glasses and serve immediately.
  11. If desired, freeze 4 parfait glasses for 1 hour before scooping sorbet into them.
  12. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and enjoy your refreshing Kentucky Mint Julep Granita!
